Administration of the Foundation
Designed to exist in perpetuity, the Foundation is administered by two co-trustees guided by an advisory board comprised of faculty administrators of the Fellowships at the member institutions and selected alumni in the Cincinnati area. The original endowment of $700,000 has grown to more than $5,000,000, and the trustees and participating institutions continue to seek ways to increase these resources to expand support of graduate education in biomedical sciences. As one result, every year since 1995, one Fellow from each school is designated an Illick Fellow of the Albert J. Ryan Foundation.
Awards distribution
The co-trustees and advisory committee meet every autumn in Cincinnati to review the business of the Foundation. Each December, the Foundation makes distributions from the trust to the three member institutions, which then use the funds to honor talented graduate stiudents in their biomedical sciences programs.
